Abstract
Le changement climatique est une menace majeure pour la biodiversité mondiale. Des tropiques aux pôles, les écosystèmes mondiaux sont tous sous pression. Selon une étude publiée dans la revue scientifique Nature, 15 à 37 % des espèces animales et végétales terrestres seraient menacées d'extinction en raison de l'impact de l'homme sur le climat (Thomas et al., 2004). Éparpillées aux quatre coins de la planète, les entités d'outre-mer de l'Union européenne abritent une diversité biologique aussi riche que vulnérable. Situés dans plusieurs points chauds de la biodiversité mondiale, ces territoires abritent un nombre d'espèces animales et végétales endémiques bien supérieur à celui de l'Europe continentale. Cependant, cette richesse naturelle est soumise à de nombreuses pressions : destruction des habitats, espèces exotiques envahissantes, pollution, surexploitation des espèces, aucun territoire n'est épargné. Aujourd'hui, le changement climatique représente une menace supplémentaire pour ces écosystèmes, une menace qui pourrait s'avérer aussi néfaste que toutes les autres réunies.
