In French Polynesia, on the island of Raiatea, at one hour's flight west of Tahiti, invasive plants species are threatening the a unique site in the world, the Taputapuatea marae, which has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2017. It is a cultural site but also an ancient political site which in fact the cradle of Maohi civilization.Today, part of this sacred site, which covers more than 5,500 hectares, has been invaded by trees imported by human activities and which are not part of the heritage species.
